At the end of the year, the school had awards for each grade. Nothing too exciting, just 1st grade completion certificates and reading certificates. Basically each kid gets his/her name called and gets to stand up and be clapped for. Exciting stuff. I, personally, was hoping for my kids to get "smartest" and "most handsome"...but I guess they didn't want to make the other kids feel bad. ;)
